The private bus was on its way to Surat from Rajsamand in Rajasthan when the driver stopped it on a roadside to repair a punctured tyre near a village on Modasa-Samlaji highway in Aravalli last night, they said.
Some passengers came out of the bus and were resting in front of it when a speeding truck hit it from behind. The bus driver had not put on the rear lights, police said.
"The bus, which was stationary, got moved with a jerk after being rammed by the truck. It ran over some people sleeping or standing in front it, killing four and injuring 10 others," Modasa (rural) police sub-inspector R D Sagar said.
The deceased have been identified as--Dalchand Kalal (30), Dalchand Kalal (31), Ladulal Kalal (31) and Dharmesh Prajapati (30).
The injured were taken to Modasa civil hospital for treatment, he said, adding that drivers of both the vehicles were absconding.
