A senior police officer said the car, coming from sea resort Digha in the district, was moving at a high speed when it rammed the truck, which was stranded on a side of the highway, in the early hours.
While four persons, all travelling in the SUV, died on the spot, two others were taken to Contai Sub-Divisional Hospital and their condition was serious, the officer said.
The driver of the car, bound for Kolkata, apparently failed to see the truck in dense fog, he added.
