The incident took place around 11:30 PM last evening when a constable saw a man urinating in the lawns near India Gate.
"On being asked to refrain from doing so, the man got into an argument with the cop which soon snowballed into an ugly spat as he was joined by other members of the group. As other police officials went to the constable's rescue, a scuffle broke out," said a police official.
The situation was brought under control only after Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal reached the spot with additional force.
The entire picnic group, which comprised of four married couples who had come from northwest Delhi localities -- Shalimar Bagh, Rohini and Pitampura, were taken to Tilak Marg Police Station.
"We did not file an FIR but the group was given a warning for their behaviour," the official added.
