4 ultras held, extortion amount recovered in police raid

A large amount collected as levy by ultra outfit "Trutiya Prastuti Committee" (TPC) was recovered and four ultras arrested in a major recovery in Chatra district of Jharkhand, a senior police officer said.
On the directive of Superitendent of Police, Surendra Kumar Jha, a joint police team of Simaria and Tandwa police stations led by Sub-Dvisional Police Officer (Tandwa), Akhilelsh Baliyar launched a massive operation and arrested the four ultras.
The police also recovered an amount of Rs.1,49,33,600 in cash, allegedly delivered by the management of Magadh and Amrapali coal company as levy to the ultras, DIG Upendra Kumar and Jha said at a jointly addressed press conference here.
The DIG claimed it was the biggest ever levy amount recovered from ultras in the state.
"We have been receiving report about spurt in the ultra activities and launched a massive campaign on the directive of Jha," he said.
In course of the campaign, simultaneous raids were conducted in the houses of the TPC Supremo Brajesh Ganju in Lawalaung village as well as in the houses of Kohram, Akraman, Aneesh, Yogendra Yadav and other active members of the organization.
Following the interrogation four arrested ultras, he said a case has been registered against them including Ganju, Akraman, Kohram and ten other members of the group..
Besides the levy amount, Kumar said, police also recovered cheques worth lakhs, one mouser firearm, a pistol, one country-made pistol and nine rounds of live ammunition from their possession.
