Uttar Pradesh Police today claimed to have busted a gang of auto-lifters after arresting four of its alleged members here following a brief encounter.
Chetan Sharma, Gaurav Choudhary, Rahul Jhingla and Akshay Raghav, all aged between 20 and 27 years, have been arrested, police said.
Six stolen cars, three motorcycles and two country-made pistols were seized from the accused after the encounter, police said.
According to police, they received information that some "wanted" auto-lifters active in Delhi-NCR would be yesterday coming near a flyover in the Khoda area.
"A police team was sent there. However, seeing the police team, the accused opened fire on them. The police team also fired in retaliation. After half-an-hour of exchange of fire, police managed to nab the four accused," said a senior police officer.
Talking about the modus operandi of the group, police said that they used to steal cars and motorcycles from Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad and sell them in other cities by removing their registration plates.
"A case has been registered in Indirapuram police station. We are now interrogating the accused about the hideouts of their accomplices," police said.
