Rajje Yadav, a resident of Tikli village who ran property and liquor businesses, was fired at from a close range by some youths on a motorcycle, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Singh Virk said.
Yadav, who was also an active supporter of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), was rushed to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Heavy traffic was witnessed throughout the day at the spot where the shooting took place.
"The culprits had come only to commit the murder and not for looting purpose," Virk said.
