SDO, Kalyani, Swapan Kumar Kundu said, while five houses were submerged by the river today, the people of an estimated 100 houses were shifted to safer places.
The erosion, which began in the early hours today, led to washing away of the five houses on the embankments this morning but there was no casualty, he said.
BDO, Chakdah, Nishith Bhaskar Paul said strengthening the embankment with 2.5 km borders will take place after the rainy season.
