The incident occurred in the wee hours in Rania area when Avinash Pandey, a resident of Allahabad, along with his wife, children and brothers were on their way to Mumbai in the car, Rania Chowki Inspector Akhilesh Yadav said.
As the truck suddenly took a turn, the car hit it from behind damaging the diesel tank causing a fire which injured Avinash and killed his wife Meena Pandey (25), son Ayush (6), daughter Aayushi (4), cousin brother Shivam (20) and Suraj (23), who all died on the spot, Yadav said.
Meanwhile, the vehicular movement on the road got disrupted due to the burning car and a fire tender was called in. Traffic movement resumed at around 4 AM, he said.
All the bodies have been sent for postmortem and a hunt has been launched to nab the absconding truck driver, the Inspector added.
