Six members of a family from Fazilka were on their way to Kotkapura from Muktsar, police said.
The accident occurred this morning after the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle which hit a roadside tree, at a place located about 2 km from Kotkapura, police said, adding that five of the passengers died on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Gurdial Singh, his wife Vimla, two sons Harjinder and Ramesh and granddaughter Aarti whereas, Gurdial's daughter Sunita received injuries in the incident and was admitted to the civil hospital at Kotkapura.
