Police found the horrific scene yesterday morning at a condominium complex, where five people and two dogs were dead of gunshot wounds.
The dead included the apparent shooter, CNN quoted a police spokesman as saying.
Officers responded to the complex in the center of town after a resident reported someone firing shots at his home, Sergent Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department said.
When police arrived, the caller told them the gunman fled on foot. Another person came up and reported shots being fired elsewhere in the complex, Thompson said.
The officers went to the apartment next door and found the suspect dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police released no names; Thompson said investigators are still seeking a motive.
A resident in the complex, Libni DeLeon told CNN affiliate KNXV that he heard a knock on his door in the morning before the man started shooting through his front door. DeLeon said one of the bullets went through his bathroom and into his kitchen.
"When I glanced at him I yelled at him, and then he turned around and shot two more rounds upstairs," he added.
