A five-year-old boy died today after a fire broke out at his residence due to an alleged cylinder leak in southeast Delhi's Tughlaqabad Extension area.
The deceased, identified as Ashu Ali, lived with his parents on the third floor of a four-storey building in Tughlaqabad Extension area.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was caused by a leakage in the LPG cylinder while Ali was alone at home, police said.
The incident took place around 1.10 pm today, they said.
A neighbour called up the police control room following which three fire tenders along with an ambulance and several police teams rushed to the spot, the official said.
Ali was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Meanwhile, a Defence spokesperson said the fire was
expeditiously reported by the Naval Dockyard security personnel.
"One of the Naval Dockyard fire-fighting team with 7-8 personnel and a thermal imaging camera entered the building to help contain the fire," he said.
The Dockyard team provided assistance in cutting of grills for providing access to firemen and refilling water for fire-fighting, he said.
"From our personnel on ground it is learnt that there was one person initially stranded on the rooftop of the building. He was rescued by the fire brigade," the spokesperson said.
