Madhavan was on his way to a tea estate near Devamalai this morning when a bear appeared from a bush and attacked him.
On hearing his screams, some women workers at a distance away from the spot raised loud noises and the bear disappeared into the bushes leaving the worker, they said.
Madhavan, who sustained injuries all over the body was admitted to the government hospital at Gudalur, police said.
