Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, 58 panchayats in Giridih district have become open defecation free (ODF).
Celebrating the occasion today, Deputy Commissioner Umashankar Singh said ODF could be possible through pledge and hard work by the villagers.
"The government is giving Rs 12,000 for construction of toilets, but several people have added additional money for the construction of a toilet along with a bathroom," he said.
School children took out an awareness campaign rally on the occasion.
