Six alleged bookies with international links were arrested today for betting on IPL matches and Rs 10 lakh cash, five laptops and 25 mobile phones were seized from them, police said.
"On a tip off, Ashok Gupta was arrested from Fazalganj area. On his inputs, five other accused were arrested from different parts of the city," SSP, Kanpur, Yashasvi Yadav said.
"The accused told police that the gang had links in London and the betting rates were decided there," Yadav said, adding that they had taken bets worth lakhs of rupees for yesterday's Chennai-Mumbai IPL final.
According to police sources, Gupta had links with bookies Sonu Rajasthani and Jiju Janardhan and the gang was in touch with bookies in Dubai.
However, Yadav refused to confirm this.
Janardhan has been arrested in connection with spot-fixing in IPL matches.
"The matter is being investigated and several high-profile people in the city can be arrested in the case," the SSP said.
