6 killed, 34 injured in Egypt road accident

At least six persons were killed and 34 others injured today after a passenger bus hit a camel and turned over in Egypt's central Beni Suef Governorate.
The accident occurred when a vehicle ferrying a number of camels came in the way of the passenger bus. One of the animals jumped in front of the bus and its driver lost control, causing it to flip over at the eastern desert road of Bani Suef city, according to medical and security officials.
Around 50 passengers were on board the bus when it met with the accident, officials said, adding that some of the injured people are said to be in critical condition.

At least 28 ambulances rushed to the spot and transferred the injured to nearby hospitals, Al-Masri el-Youm Arabic newspaper quoted eye witnesses as saying.
Egypt has one of the world's highest accident rates owing to careless driving and poor road and vehicle conditions.
The World Health Organization ranks Egypt world's 10th worst country in terms of road mishaps.
