The police seized a total of 699 kg ganja from two places in Alipurduar district on Sunday and arrested four persons for smuggling the contraband, a police officer said.
The first lot of ganja, packed in 55 packets and weighing around 681 kg, was seized from a container truck at Pakriguri near the Assam-West Bengal border in the early hours on Sunday, the officer said.
The driver of the container truck has been arrested, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Alipurduar district, Sunil Yadav, said.
The container truck was travelling to Patna in Bihar from Agartala in Tripura via West Bengal, he said.
The SP also said that another police team seized 18 kg ganja and arrested three youths for smuggling the contraband.
They were arrested from Monojit Nag bus stand on Sunday, he added.
