8.5 kg gold, 12 kg silver seized during 'Operation Hamla'

In a chance yield, unaccounted gold biscuits weighing 8.5 kg and 12 kg of silver were seized from two persons here during the routine two-day anti-terrorist preparatory drill 'Operation Hamla' that began in 13 coastal districts of Tamil Nadu today, police said.
Personnel of Police, Coast Guard, Coastal Security Group and 'Q' branch besides fisheries department officials were involved in the mock anti-terrorist exercise.
As the operation was being carried out in the Combined Mofussil Bus Stand at Koyambedu here, police came across a person and found him carrying 8.5 kg of gold biscuits when they checked him on suspicion.

The man belonged to Bhopal but was presently residing in Coimbatore, police said, adding further investigation was on.
In the other seizure, a man was detained in Basin Bridge Railway Station with 12 kg of silver.
The drill, intended to check the preparedness of police personnel manning areas in 13 coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, is conducted as a two-day event annually, with a few police personnel posing as 'terrorists' attempting to reach the mainland by sea and reach a public area in the city to carryout their activities.
