8 ft long crocodile found in Latur dist, stuffed into vehicle

An eight feet long crocodile was today captured from a farm close to the Manjra river in adjoining Latur district.

The crocodile, weighing around 150 kg, was found near Batanpur village in Devni tehsil, a forest official said.

It took villagers around four hours to capture the crocodile, which devoured a goat a few days ago, a Batanpur resident said.

This is the fourth crocodile to be found in Latur district in the last few months, he said, adding the reptiles come in the Manjra river from Karnataka, which borders Latur distruit.

Village sarpanch Shrikant Rohidas Karbhari, in whose farm the crocodile was found, said the reptile was first seen in the river two years ago, but could not be captured. "Now that the water level has receded, it was exposed," he added.

Meanwhile, a video of the crocodile capture, posted on social media, has made netizens wonder if people are equipped to handle such incidents, going by the manner in which the reptile was bound, carried on shoulders of villagers and tossed around, before being shoved into a jeep, to be handed over to forest officials.
