Four peacocks were found dead in Gudasdavartiya area of Ramgarh Vishdhari sanctuary and other four in Datunda area near Narayanpur dam yesterday, District Forest Officer Rajendra Singh Nathawat said.
Postmortem report has confirmed that the birds were killed by breaking their neck, Nathawat said.
"One person has been arrested and raids are on to nab other poachers," he said.
Ghanshayam Varma and Brijkishore Mehara of the department have been suspended for negligence of duty, he added.
The district forest department is coordinating with police to check the killing of peacocks, he said.
Despite awareness programme by the forest department, poachers continue to hunt the national bird in the district. As per the data of the department, 42 peacocks were killed in last six months.
