A shell of 81 mm mortar was recovered from a field in Bada Gaon village close to Shahjadpur this morning, police said.
The mortar bomb shell, weighs around two kg, is around 16 inch long and 10 inch, they said, adding that the matter has also been reported to the army.
According to the information, Joginder Singh, who owned the field from where the shell was recovered, was cutting eucalyptus trees when one of the labourers noticed some 'heavy iron object' while digging the ground.
When the 'object' was dug out, it seemed to be an old bomb shell. Deputy Commissioner of Police Arun Singh said the shell could be around two to three decades old.
