848 vacancies in statistical services due to attrition: MOSPI

High rate of attrition and lower grade pay has led to as many as 848 vacancies in Subordinate Statistical Services, under the statistics ministry, the Parliament was informed today.
"As on April 1, 2017, 848 positions are vacant in the grades of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO vacant-473) and Senior Statistical Officer (SSO vacant-375) in the Subordinate Statistical Services," Statistics Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
These vacancies are due to high rate of attrition and not many people joining as JSO on being selected by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) in view of lower grade pay of Rs 4,200 and Rs 4,600 as compared to other similarly placed organised Group-B services, he said.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) has requested the SSC to recruit 666 candidates for the post of JSO through Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGLE) 2016, he added.
He further said the meetings of Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) for promotion from the post of JSO to SSO are being held regularly.
In line with the recommendations of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance, the ministry has recommended grant of commensurate grade pay of Rs 4,600 for JSOs and Rs 4,800 for SSOs of SSS to the Ministry of Finance to arrest high rate of attrition, Gowda said.
