88 per cent polling in Amarpur by-election

Around 87.82 per cent polling was recorded in Amarpur by-election in Tripura's Gomati district today.
Polling was peaceful amid tight security, Returning Officer (RO) Debapriya Bardhan said over phone from Amarpur.
Of the 51 polling booths, as many as eight booths were identified as sensitive ones where BSF and CRPF jawans were engaged as part of foolproof security.
Although polling was thin in the initial hours, it gained pace after 1 pm and ended at 87.82 per cent.
However, voting percentage in Amarpur Assembly constituency was 93 per cent in the last assembly elections.
Altogether seven candidates are in the fray.
The counting of votes would be held on February 16.
