R K V Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association said the markets would remain closed from March 28 to April 5 and would assemble the following day (apr 6).
Meanwhile prices of turmeric decreased today at the week end day market. The finger variety decreased by Rs 100 to Rs 300 a quintal and root variety by Rs 200 a quintal. The fine variety Salem Turmeric sold at Rs 10,500 a quintal.Of the total arrival of 8500 bags, 4300 were sold.
New turmeric variety: The finger variety was sold at Rs 6389 to Rs 8559 a quintal, root variety at Rs 6200 to Rs 7814 a quintal. At the Regulated Market Committee, finger turmeric was sold at Rs 7289 to Rs 8299 a quintal, root turmeric at Rs 6309 to Rs 7569 a quintal.
At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society finger turmeric was sold at Rs 7319 to Rs 8319 a quintal and the root variety were sold at Rs 6709 to Rs 7599 a quintal.
