Ninety-two terrorists attempted infiltration from Pakistani side up to September 30 this year, out of which 37 were killed while 17 infiltrated successfully, the government said today.
In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh said six Army personnel were martyred during ceasefire violations along the Line of Control up to December 6 this year.
This was the highest casualty since 2012.
As per the figures given by the Minister, this year showed the the least number of infiltration attempts. While in 2012, 264 terrorist attempted infiltration, the figure increased to 277 in 2013.
This came down to 221 in 2014 and this year saw 92 militants attempting infiltration up to September 30.
The usual trend is that infiltration attempts reduce once the winter sets in.
Of the 17 who successfully infiltrated this year, one was caught alive.
The Minister said that as reported by the state government, during the period from 2012 to 2014 and the current year, 2,15,110 families were temporarily affected and 193 houses were fully or partially damaged in Jammu and Kashmir due to shelling/firing on LC/IB.
During such shelling/firing, the inhabitants of border villages are shifted to safer locations to prevent any loss of life.
All arrangements are made by the district administration for free-boarding, lodging, medicare, water, electricity, food, sanitation and transport to safer places in such cases, he said.
Singh added that the government will continue to work for establishing peaceful, friendly and cooperative relations with Pakistan and will remain committed to resolving all outstanding matters, including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, through a peaceful bilateral dialogue in an environment free from terror and violence.
However, he made it clear that the government is resolved to take all necessary steps to protect India's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and ensure peace and security of the citizens at all times.
