A slice of Hindi theatre

Contemporary hindi authors and playwrights are set to highlight various social issues at the upcoming third annual theatre festival scheduled here for this weekend.
Organised by Sparsh Natya Rang, the four-day festival beginning from August 28 showcases the Hindi theatre scene in the city.
Plays titled "Neem Hakeem Khatra-E-Jaan," "Sakharam Binder", "Bobby Breaker" and others aim to inspire audiences with their storyline and performances.
"Neem Hakeem Khatra-E-Jaan" written by Moliere and adapted by V K Shrama, Amitabh Srivastava is scheduled to kickstart the festival. The play, a comedy of errors revolves around a drunkard who pesters his wife, who in turn decided to teach the man a lesson. In the process, the man becomes a successful doctor but soon falls into trouble with the law.

"Aadhi Sadi" penned by Chandradhar Sharma Guleri, Jainendra Kumar, Yashpal, Bhisham Sahni are among the other is an enactment of four short stories by some very eminent Hindi writers representing the first fifty years of modern Hindi literature.
These four stories set in different time zones and locales have one common thread which connects all four of them, a different manifestation of love.

A commoner's questioning of various hypocrisies prevalent in social rituals and the marriage system is portrayed in "Sakharam Binder" written by Vijay Tendulkar and presented by Himachal Culture Research Fourmre Theatre Repertory.
It revolves around the life of Sakharm - a book binder, who openly contests the existing marriage system and the hypocrisy it is based on and questions the notion of emotional attachments as crucial to any relationship. He provides shelter to destitute women in return for favours.

"Bobby Breaker" has been written by the late Sudhir Kavdi and is about the the struggle of a young boy who stammers.
