The Archery Association of India (AAI) today formed an three-member enquiry committee to investigate into the men's compound archers' failure to turn up at a bronze medal play-off in the World University Games held earlier this month in Gwangju, Korea.
The AAI has also taken a strict action against the concerned coaches and barred them from any international assignment till the outcome of the report.
The three-member panel will have AAI secretary general Anil Kamineni, treasurer Virendra Sachdeva and chairman of ethics committee K S Kang. They will probe into the reasons as to why the men's compound archery team failed to appear for the bronze medal match at the World University Games held July 4-8.
"The committee would submit its report at the earliest and in the meantime, the coaches concerned would not be given any international assignments," AAI said in a statement.
The men's compound team comprising Gurwinder Singh, Kanwalpreet Singh and Aman was not present at the start of the match against Italy at 10am local time in Gwangju and as per the World Archery rules the game was forfeited.
As per the World Archery rules if a team is not present at the start of a final match then that game is forfeited.
Even though coach Jiwanjot Singh reasoned that they had to forego the match because of a broken bow, media reports stated that the boys failed to arrive at the venue because they were out sightseeing.
