According to the Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) President Anupam Singh, eggs and stones were thrown at Lamba and Pandey near a tea stall at the Delhi University's Arts Faculty by NSUI activists when they were holding discussions with CYSS members.
"We had approached police over the attack in which Pandey has received minor injuries," Singh said.
NSUI, however, refuted the allegations.
"We have no involvement in the incident. The attackers were not from our outfit," NSUI leader Kumar Raja said.
CYSS is the student wing of Aam Aadmi Party which is trying to make inroads in student politics with its eyes set on the upcoming elections of Delhi University's Student Union (DUSU).
Delhi University which enrolls over 60,000 students every year to its undergraduate programmes opened its doors for a fresh batch of students today.
Earlier in the day, AAP Chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kerjiwal took to twitter to greet the freshers on their new beginning.
While Lamba and Pandey had visited Ramjas College and Kirori Mal College respectively, party leaders Adarsh Shastri, Raghav Chaddha and Raghu Ram went to Hindu College, Miranda House and Sri Venketeshwara College to welcome the freshers.
