BJP councillors today took out a march demanding that the AAP government release funds as recommended by the Delhi Finance Commission and met Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju seeking his intervention in the matter.
Mayors of South, North and East Delhi municipal corporations, accompanied by leaders of the civic bodies and BJP councillors, took out a march from Central Park in Connaught Place to the North Block but were stopped by police near Parliament Street police station.
Later, a delegation of North, South and East Delhi municipal corporations met Rijiju and handed over a memorandum to him.
"The delegation requested the minister to intervene and ask the Delhi government to act constitutionally and release pending arrears of Rs 3,000 crore of 3rd Delhi Finance Commission to municipal corporations and also implement the recommendations of the 4th Delhi Finance Commission," said Vijay Prakash Pandey, Leader of House in North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
The BJP councillors also told the minister that the AAP government is "continuously intervening and curbing the powers of the corporations" and trying to make them "financially week", seeking his intervention in this regard, Pandey said.
