A city court on Wednesday acquitted Aam Aadmi Party MLA Sarita Singh in a case of alleged misbehaviour with a Delhi police official in November 2015.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal granted relief to the member of assembly from Rohtash Nagar, noting that the prosecuting agency, Delhi police, failed to probe the case against her.
The legislator of ruling AAP in Delhi was booked under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 279 (rash driving) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC for allegedly misbehaving with a police official on duty in northeast Delhi's Rohtash Nagar area.
However, the court had only framed the charge of criminal intimidation, saying prima facie no other offence was made out.
According to the police, Singh's driver allegedly hit the police official's motorbike while reversing his car.
The official, identified as assistant sub-inspector Om Pal, was deployed in security arrangement at a marriage function of a party worker in the area. He had to jump off the vehicle to save himself from getting injured, police had claimed.
An argument broke out between the driver and the official during which the MLA intervened and allegedly hurled abusive words at the ASI.
The incident was also recorded by someone, and the video later went viral on media, police had said.
Singh had alleged that it was the official who abused her first, leading to the entire episode, and the police were targeting her because she belonged to a particular party.
