AAP MLA from Delhi Cantonment Surinder Singh has sought a CBI probe into "phenomenal" rise in the assets of Karan Singh Tanwar, after the Commonwealth game, a charge rubbished by the former BJP legislator.
Singh, a former NSG commando and an AAP MLA, alleged a "phenomenal" rise in the assets of Tanwar and his wife Manju.
The MLA said as mentioned by Tanwar in his affidavit in 2008 and 2013, the assets of the two increased from Rs 1.26 crore to Rs 17 crore.
"Most of this rise was after the Commonwealth Games. The matter should be thoroughly probed. I have written to the CBI over the issue. Incidentally, his wife works as a professor in the Delhi University.
"How someone's assets could rise so quickly in last 5 years?" Singh said.
Tanwar, who was is a former vice-chairman of the NDMC, refuted the allegations and saying Singh was rattled over his alleged fake degree case.
He also threatened Singh of slapping a case of criminal defamation.
"He is resorting to this as his fake degree case is coming up in the court. The rise in the value of my assets has happened over the years as land rate has increased drastically in Delhi over the last six-seven years.
"My wife earns a monthly income of Rs 2 lakh and has been a professor for over 30 years now. I also get a monthly share from my ancestral property," Tanwar said.
