According to a statement issued by the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), actor Amitabh Bachchan has pledged to be the ambassador of AAPI's campaign.
According to survey data, India has the highest death rate in the world due to auto accidents, estimated at around 3,50,000 deaths per year, including due to lack of Emergency Medical Service (EMS) around the country.
"Our contribution is also in response to the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the Indian diasporas to participate in the development of India. On the eve of the Pravasi Bhartiya Bivas, and to mark the 100th year of Gandhiji's return to India, the physician and healthcare community in the United States will this year focus on three key initiatives - trauma and brain injury, women's health, and women-led leadership. We thank Amitabh Bachchan for his commitment to the cause of trauma and brain injury," said Seema Jain, president of AAPI.
The just-concluded GHS, held last week in Mumbai, was attended by over 1,000 delegates including Union Health Minister J P Nadda, Mahrashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and others.
"If AAPI has a project in its efforts to enhance healthcare system in India, the Ministry of Health will collaborate and provide all possible support," the Health Minister had said at the occasion.
