About 53 per cent polling reported in council polls

An estimated 53 per cent voting was reported today in the biennial elections for two seats each of graduates' and teachers' constituency of Karnataka Legislative Council.
The constituencies that went for polls were Karnataka North-West graduates', South graduates', Karnataka North-West teachers' and West teachers' constituency, .
Voting percentage in West teachers' constituency was 64.60, North West graduates' constituency 48.05, North West teachers' constituency 56 and South graduates' 43.92, election officials said.
Karnataka North West graduates' constituency has 21 candidates in the fray, North West teachers' 13, South Graduates' 17 and West teachers eight candidates.
Three of the four sitting members who are due to retire on expiry of their term on July 4 are seeking re-election. They are Mahantesh Shivananda Kaujalagi of Congress for North-West graduates' constituency, Arun Shahapur of BJP from North West teachers', and Basavaraj Horatti of JD(S) West Teachers' constituency.
Counting of votes for these polls will be held on June 13.
Meanwhile, biennial elections to fill seven seats of Karnataka Legislative Council from Legislative Assembly will be held tomorrow. Counting of votes will also take place the same day.
Eight candidates are in the fray for the election of which four are from Congress, two each from BJP and JD(S).
