The anti-corruption bureau of Telangana police today said its probe had found that a former director of the state-run Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here and others caused a loss Rs 3 crore by purchasing overpriced equipment.
ACB registered a case in this regard yesterday.
Following the allegations of irregularities in purchase of medical equipment at NIMS during the tenure of its former director Dr A Dharma Rakshak, ACB started an inquiry and scrutinised several documents, it said in a release today.
"The verification of various documents and examination of various witnesses has revealed that gross violations were made in tender and purchase process," it said.
Items such as operation theatre tables, lights and ventilators were bought at the rates much higher than the market rates, causing a loss of Rs 3.03 crore to NIMS and the government, according to the ACB.
The ACB yesterday registered a case of criminal misconduct under the Prevention of Corruption Act against Dharma Rakshak, the former additional medical superintendent Dr D Mukunda Reddy and financial controller V Sridhar and others.
Searches were being carried out at the residences of Dharma Rakshak, Reddy and Sridhar besides the offices of the suppliers of equipment, the ACB said.
