Rajendra Shirsat (47), inspector with the C-1 division of the state Excise department, was arrested last week for allegedly giving a bribe of Rs 15 lakh to his female colleague for withdrawing a complaint of molestation lodged against him.
During the search carried out recently at Shirsat's house, the ACB found Rs 8,92,320 in cash, besides documents showing two flats in his wife's name at Airoli (Navi Mumbai) valued at Rs 1,44,43,180, apart from one saloon and two shops valued at Rs 1,60,72,703.
Shirsat was caught on Monday last week when he was allegedly giving the money to the complainant on the Eastern Express Highway at Vikhroli in suburban Mumbai.
The woman, who worked in the same department, had earlier filed a police complaint of molestation against Shirsat under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code.
The ACB has already registered a case under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the accused with the Shri Nagar police station in the city.
