Rights activists here today accused Ajmer police of shielding three policemen accused of sexually assaulting a eunuch in a police station earlier this month and demanded their immediate arrest.
The eunuch had alleged that she was beaten and raped by three policemen in Dargah police station, Ajmer, on June 5 and when she complained to the SHO, he extorted Rs 40,000 from her.
Narrating the whole event at a press conference here, the eunuch said, "I, along with 8 other eunuchs, was on the way to Ajmer Dargah on June 4 when Constable Bhawani Singh stopped our taxi and misbehaved with us."
"We were arrested and in the wee hours on June 5, Bhawani Singh, Laxminarayan and Omprakash raped me and also filmed it," the eunuch said.
"When I told this to the SHO, he promised to release us and took Rs 40,000 out of the Rs 87,000 that we had, the eunuch said, adding that instead of release, we were produced in the court and then sent to judicial custody.
People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) general secretary Kavita Srivastava alleged that the police did not incorporate appropriate sections regarding rape deliberately to protect their men.
"Police officers are not investigating the case properly. They did not include appropriate sections in the FIR," she said, adding they have also met with the DGP and Women's commission to seek justice in this case.
Meanwhile, Investigating Officer Gaurav Yadav rejected the charge of shielding policemen.
SHO Vijay Singh, who was charged with taking Rs 40,000 from the eunuch has already been arrested on June 18, whereas the three rape accused policemen have been transferred from Dargah police station, Yadav said.
Yadav also said that primary investigation in the case does not indicate any such incident of rape, adding the matter is being investigated further.
