Activists float paper boats to remind Gadkari of his promise

Eco-activists here today floated hundreds of paper boats in Yamuna, seeking to remind Union tranport and shipping minister Nitin Gadkiri of his promise made in Decemeber 2014 that people soon would be able to sail from Delhi to Agra in the river.
Hundreds of paper boats were floated in the Yamuna as activists shouted slogans and demanded urgent measures to revive the river.
Devashish Bhattacharya of River Connect Campaign said Gadkari on December 3, 2014 had said, people will soon be able to go to Agra "sailing" on the Yamuna as the Centre had sought "help from the Netherlands government for the ambitious project that includes building barrages and water terminals on both sides of the river."

"Now this government has totally forgotten the promise and has failed to take a single step to rejuvenate the river and provide relief to millions of people in the Braj Mandal whose lifeline is Yamuna," said Nandan Shrotriya of Shri Mathuradheesh temple which conducts a daily aarti at the Etmauddaula view-point park here.
"Soon people can go to Agra via Delhi through Yamuna...We will float a Cabinet note within 10 days to specify works for the project by our Ministry and the Delhi Government," Gadkari had said.
