"We have even placed several suggestions before the CM urging her to undertake a comprehensive plan for the next five years to improve the infrastructure and revive Bengali film industry," actor Prasenjit Chatterjee and director Goutam Ghosh told reporters after meeting the Chief Minister at the state secretariat.
With the growth of mutiplex, a large number of cinema halls were closed and the number of operative cinema halls in the state even have come down to nearly 400 from 1100 earlier, while in Andhra Pradesh alone number of such cinema halls are about 2,500, they said.
"Because of less number of cinema halls, we can't get many films released at a time," Trinamool Congress MP Dev (Dipak Adhikary) said.
"We need both help and incentives from the government to overcome hurdles and revive the Bengali film industry and the CM has assured us to look into the matter," film Director Srijit Mukherjee said.
