Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday welcomed Parliament's approval for revoking provisions of Article 370 and splitting Jammu and Kashmir into two Union territories.

Congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah ,Yogi said the decision will not only help Jammu and Kashmir but also Ladakh.

This will give momentum to the development of Jammu and Kashmir and is a gift to the mothers, sisters, youth, minorities, scheduled castes and tribes, the chief minister said.

Yogi also charged the Congress with resorting to negative politics to mislead the people of the country.

"They have not been able to rise above negative politics or the mistakes of the past," Yogi said and thanked all the lawmakers who supported this decision.

A day after the Rajya Sabha passed it, the Lok Sabha on Tuesday too approved a resolution abrogating special status to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 of the Constitution and a bill for splitting the state into two Union territories.

The resolution was adopted by the Lok Sabha with 351 members voting in its support and 72 against it, while one member abstained.

The bill to create two UTs -- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh -- was passed by 370 votes in favour and 70 against.
