After Kolkata Police permanently barring the entry of visitors to view the world's tallest Durga idol at Deshapriya Park in the city, the organisers have now decided to request the administration to help them conserve it.
The idol is equal to the height of an eight-storied building and the huge interest created by the organisers by their advertisement blitzkreig had led to massive rush almost leading to a near stampede-like situation on Sunday last.
According to Deshapriya Park Durgotsav Committee secretary Sudipto Kumar, the club would hold a meeting before deciding on whom and how to approach in the administration to help them conserve the idol.
"Yes we want to conserve the idol but it's still in the thinking process. We will hold a meeting after the Lakshmi Puja (on October 26) to take a final call on this," Kumar told PTI.
In fact, Nicco Park authorities, Eco Park at New Town which is under the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) and a top business group have expressed their interest in conserving the Durga idol, Kumar said.
Talking about the Kolkata Police taking suo motu case under bailable IPC section 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) against them at the Lake Police Station on charge of violating rules and regulations, Kumar said, "We may seek legal help."
Kolkata Police permanently stopped the entry of people inside the park citing security and safety reasons.
Police later erected a view-curtain around the park so that the idol cannot be viewed from outside.
