Afghanistan hands over slain diplomatic staff's body to Pak

The body of a Pakistani diplomatic staffer who was shot dead by unidentified assailants Afghanistan's Jalalabad city, arrived here today, a day after Islamabad lodged a strong protest with Kabul over the incident.
Afghanistan handed over the body of Nayyar Iqbal Rana to Pakistani authorities at the Torkham border near Peshawar, from where it was sent to Islamabad for funeral and last rites, officials said.
The 52-year-old Rana was shot dead by two bike-borne unknown assailants at a shop near his residence yesterday. He is survived by his widow and five children.
There was no claim of responsibility for the attack and Afghan officials were still clueless about the motive of the murder, Pakistani officials said.

Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif urged the Afghan government to take urgent steps to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safety and security of Pakistan's diplomatic personnel and its missions in Afghanistan, Pakistan's Foreign Office (FO) said.
In a statement, issued late yesterday, the FO said that Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua summoned the Afghan Charge dAffair's to lodge a strong protest against this heinous act and demanded that the perpetrators should be apprehended and brought to justice.
The Foreign Secretary asked for fool proof security for Pakistani diplomats and missions in Afghanistan, the FO said.
