Ignoring the fierce attack on him by Rahul Gandhi, who accused him of "personal corruption", Prime Minister Narendra Modi today advised Congress leaders to meet him "more often" as "it helps".
"Milte raha karo (keep meeting more often). It helps," he told a Congress delegation led by the party vice president which met him after a bitter and protracted face off between the ruling BJP and the opposition over demonetisation both within and outside Parliament whose winter session concluded today without much business being transacted.
Modi gave a patient hearing to the 13-member Congress delegation that met him to highlight the plight of farmers after demonetisation and sought a farm loan waiver besides other issues.
Congress leaders highlighted the problems faced by farmers in their home states during the almost half-hour meeting.
The meeting, however, proved somewhat counterproductive for the Congress as it created fissures in the opposition unity over demonetisation, with some parties backing out of an all-party delegation led by Congress to the President to highlight the problems faced by the people following the note ban.
