Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh today advocated more use of the Hindi language in official work while implementing schemes related to farmers.
In the first meeting of the Joint Hindi Advisory Committee held today, members expressed satisfaction over the use of official language Hindi in the ministry and emphasised on more use of Hindi in official work, an official statement said.
"Most of policies/schemes as well as activities concerned with Ministry of Agriculture relate to farmers and common man. Therefore, it is our duty that we should use Hindi as much as possible while implementing policies/schemes in the business of central government," Singh, who chaired the committee, said in the meeting.
Simultaneously, it will be useful to provide know-how of such schemes to people in non-Hindi speaking states through their vernacular languages, he added.
It was the first meeting after the committee was constituted.
Later, the minister also chaired the meeting of 12th General Council of National Food Security Mission (GCNFSM).
In this meeting, the concerned officers briefed the Agriculture Minister in detail through the presentations about the achievement and production targets till date under National Food Security Mission.
It was informed that the mission, which was launched in 11th Five Year Plan during 2007-08 with an objective to increase food production to 20 million tonne by 2011-12, has been successful.
The production of 42 million tonne of foodgrains was achieved, which was more than the target of the mission. The mission has been continued in 12th Five Year Plan with new targets of 25 million tonne additional foodgrain production, including 10 million tonne rice, 8 million tonne wheat, 4 million tonne pulses and 3 million tonne coarse cereals, the statement added.
