A day ahead of Congress president Sonia Gandhi's scheduled visit to unseasonal rain affected areas of Rajasthan, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje today toured the villages in the district and assured farmers of providing adequate relief.
After assessing the situation and listening to farmers' woes, Raje declared 820 out of 860 villages in the district as scarcity hit.
She also ordered the district authorities to immediately complete the survey on damage of crops and ensure that they get the relief amount promptly.
Raje's sudden visit to rain affected villages in Hadoti region is seen as a major diplomatic move ahead of Sonia Gandhi's visit to Rajasthan tomorrow.
The Congress president is scheduled to visit the villages of Jhalawar, the hometown and constituency of Raje, and also affected villages of Bundi, Kota and Baran of Hadoti region.
Raje arrived at Lakheri village by helicopter at around 11 am and visited rain and hailstorm affected Paapdi, Badakheda, Basoda and Devji-ki-Khedi villages of Bundi district.
"The government is well aware of the loss and damage by unseasonal rain and my government is committed to provide the farmers all the required assistance," she said.
The National Disaster Relief team would survey the damage to the crops by the unseasonal rain and submit its report, Raje told reporters, adding that the state government is in constant touch with the Centre in this regard.
Rajasthan Road and Transport Minister Babulal Verma, Bundi district collector Anandi, district BJP president Shokenchandra Rathore, BJP leaders Kalulal Jangid, Mahipat Singh Hada with several other local representatives accompanied Raje in her visit to the rain affected villages.
Later, Raje left for Jhalawar where she would meet affected farmers.
