The Committee headed by former MLA Gopal Krishan Chatrath has four other members -- late Chief Minister Beant Singh's daughter Gurkanwal Kaur, former Punjab Youth Congress President Rana Varinder Singh, former Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly Jaswant Singh and ex-MLA Bhag Singh.
Party sources have maintained that the setting up of this committee amid a virtual rebellion in the party over the new PPCC list is an indication that indiscipline will not be tolerated and grievances if any had to be aired within party forums.
Every state has a disciplinary committee, which recommends action to state party chief if the matter of indiscipline relates to state delegates. In case of any matter involving AICC delegates, the state disciplinary committee will have to send the report to the AICC with a recommendation from the PCC chief.
The AICC had on Tuesday set up a four-member panel to look into grievances and quell the rebellion within the state unit.
This panel, which included party MP from Jalandhar, Mohinder Singh Kaypee, former minister and sitting MLA, Lal Singh, Punjab Mahila Congress chief Malti Thapar and AICC secretary KL Sharma, will submit its report within a month.'
Many Congress leaders from the state, including former Union minister Ashwani Kumar and former Punjab minister Jagmohan Singh Kang, had even threatened to resign from the committee.
Ahmed had made clear his displeasure over some leaders publicly voicing their opposition to the list, which was announced last month, saying "this is not good".
The PPCC was formed after much deliberation with 14 vice-presidents, 35 general secretaries, 61 secretaries and 148 members.
