AICC general secretary Avinash Pandey is on a visit to Assam to study the statehood demands of various ethnic communities in the aftermath of Telangana.
On his arrival in Guwahati yesterday, Pandey held a meeting with the state Congress leaders who apprised him about the statehood demands of Karbi, Dimasa, Koch Rajbongshi and Bodo communities, APCC chief spokesman Mehdi Alam Bora told PTI today.
The AICC leader visited violence-hit Karbi Anglong district today and will tomorrow go to Goalpara and Kokrajhar districts where the demand for separate Kamtapur and Bodoland states is getting strident, Bora said.
He will submit his findings to Congress president Sonia Gandhi on his return to Delhi.
The demands for separate states in Assam have recently led to large-scale violence and agitations with the hill district of Karbi Anglong witnessing the killing of two persons besides injuring several others.
