Ailing rhino 'Rohit' dies at Kanpur Zoo

A 25-year-old rhinoceros died after prolonged illness at the Kanpur Zoo, a zoo official said today.
Rhinoceros Rohit, who was suffering from piles for the last two years, died during treatment yesterday at the Zoo, Kanpur Zoo Director Mukesh Kumar said.
A team of four doctors carried out the post-mortem and his body has been sent to Bareilly to ascertain the actual cause of death, Kumar added.
Rohit was born in 1989 at Kanpur Zoo and with his death, the number of rhinoceroses at the zoo now is three.
Average life expectancy of rhinoceroses is 30-35 years.
