"We are conducting raids to nab the key accused Roop Singh Dangi, who is on the run," SIT member, Inspector Vijay Dahiya said today.
Police sources said the raids were underway in Rajasthan and some parts of Haryana to nab the key accused.
"Once we have him in the net, we will confront him with other accused to dig out more details in the case. Many things will become clear once he is caught," he said.
He, however, did not share more details, saying, investigations were going on.
Yesterday, Rohtak police had formed the SIT to carry out an in depth probe into the arrest of two dentists and an MBBS student among others for allegedly passing on answer keys to some students during the exam.
The SIT headed by DSP Rohtak Amit Bhatia also consists of incharge of CIA-2 unit (of Rohtak police) Inspector Vijay and incharge of Rohtak Special Task Force, Sub Inspector Rakesh.
During investigations, it came to light that the accused were working in collusion with Rohtak-based Roop Singh Dangi who had provided them with 'answer keys'.
Police are probing at least nine candidates with whom the accused had struck a deal of Rs 15-20 lakh to help them pass the examination.
Police had received information that the accused were staying in a hotel in Panipat, but were later arrested near here.
A case under relevant sections has been registered against the accused.
In a modus operandi similar to a case in November 2012, when seven MBBS doctors were caught cheating at four examination centres in Chandigarh by anti-corruption branch of the CBI; the accused used sophisticated vests attached with SIM card units and bluetooth-enabled earpieces to provide the answers in the AIPMT.
