Air traffic restored at Srinagar

With improvement in weather, air traffic at Srinagar International airport was restored today, facilitating passengers who were stranded in Kashmir due to heavy snowfall yesterday.
"So far nearly a dozen flights operated to and fro and we are making efforts to arrange more flights to meet the heavy rush of passengers," an official of Airport Authority of India told PTI.
He said there was heavy rush of passengers due to cancellation of all the scheduled flights yesterday owing to heavy snowfall.
"As the sun shone in the afternoon, we intensified our efforts and restored air traffic by clearing the runway of the snow," he said.

Barring Srinagar-Leh flight which was cancelled due to bad weather, all other flights scheduled for the day are expected to operate, the official said.
Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir valley experienced heavy snowfall yesterday forcing cancellation of all flights and closure of 300-km Srinagar-Jammu national highway - the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with rest of the country.
While Srinagar recorded over one feet of snow, high altitude areas including Jawahar Tunnel along the Srinagar-Jammu national highway experienced over four feet of snow.
