Airport clash: AAI supervisor arrested

Kerala police today arrested an Airports Authority of India supervisor in connection with the June 10 clashes between CISF personnel and AAI employees at Karipur international airport, which led to death of a jawan.
He is the 10th AAI employee to be arrested.
Aji Kumar was arrested on the same charge that the nine AAI officials were arrested earlier, Kondotty Circle Inspector B Santosh, the Investigating Officer in the cases, told PTI.
Police said Kumar had been hospitalised on June 10 after he sustained some injuries in the clash. He was discharged today and was arrested from the hospital itself, they said.

The nine fire and safety staff of AAI had been arrested on June 12 under various IPC sections, including 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), rioting with deadly weapons and assault and preventing public servant from discharging his duty.
Meanwhile four CISF jawans, arrested yesterday, were produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate court at Manjeri (Malappuram district) today and and remanded to 14 days judicial custody, they said.

A dispute over a CISF personnel insisting that an official of AAI's Fire Force department undergo security clearance had led to a verbal duel between the two. In the ensuing melee, the jawan received fatal gunshot injuries.

A bullet from CISF Sub-Inspector S S Choudhary's firearm had accidentally hit the jawan, killing him. The SI had suffered injuries in his left palm during the incident and is being treated.
After the violence, the airport had been temporarily closed and flights were diverted to Nedumbassery airport in Kochi on the night of June 10. Flight operations resumed the next day.
Police had on Saturday registered a case against the SI and 100 CISF personnel in connection with the clash.
