"We have begun our phase-wise agitation three months ago, and today's agitation at Jantar Mantar is a part of that agitation to demand a special economic package for Jharkhand," a party release quoting Mahto said.
"Though the state has maximum percentage of mineral resources, 54 per cent of the people live below poverty line and the state is backward. According to separate surveys by the state and the central governments, there are 35 lakh BPL families in the state," said Mahto.
The Ajsu leaders and workers have already observed fast at different places in Jharkhand, took out 'adhikar raths' across the state and formed a human chain as part of their demand for special economic package, he said.
